High Temp Multi-turn Absolute Encoder Module, 12-bit

Avago's AEAT-84AD enhances the functionality of the AEAS-7000 single-turn module by providing multi-turn capabilities and eliminates the need for alignment (via its Plug&Play feature). Notably, its ability to operate up to 125C enables applications in harsher operating environment.

Avago's AEAT-84AD is an add-on module that adds motor shaft revolution count capability to AEAS-7000, the industry's smallest high-speed, plug-and-play absolute encoder.

The combination of AEAS-7000 absolute encoder and AEAT-84AD shaft revolution count module uses a modular approach that reduces the number of assembly steps to 4, versus other approaches that require as many as 8 steps. The encoder combination also dramatically reduces the number of components needed from approximately 120 to as few as 4, decreasing inventory, manufacturing, and purchasing costs. As a result, customers' supply chain is being simplified! In addition, it reduces manufacturer design cycles by eliminating the need for multiple alignment adjustments with its industry-first plug-and-play feature.

Absolute encoders are used in machines that need information about the position of components before any motion occurs. The AEAS-7000/AEAT-84AD is capable of position resolutions ranging from 12 bits to 16 bits, combined with 12- or 14-bit revolution count resolution.

Absolute Encoders

Avago absolute encoders are position feedback devices that report absolute positional information. An absolute encoder generates a unique code for each position. When powered up, these absolute encoders do not require a home cycle even if the shaft was rotated while the power was switched-off. Avago absolute encoders in this category use optical technology or Hall effect sensing technology to sense positional information.

Absolute encoders come in two categories, single-turn encoders and multi-turn encoders. These absolute encoders provide a variety of resolutions (i.e. 12, 13, 14, 16 bit). The sizes of these absolute encoders are compact to enable easier integration into space constraint applications including medical, security, brushless DC motors, and industrial applications. Avago has direct replacements for US Digital kit encoders and Renco encoders

Multi-turn encoders permit multiple turn counts. Multiple turns are achieved by placing the multiple gear-head module to the primary high resolution disk. Avago’s multi turn encoders are recognized for their reliability and consistency in providing highly accurate absolute information for multiple revolutions.


Multi-turn encoders from Avago have a true mechanical system which eliminates the need of a battery back-up in the event of power failures or sudden stoppage. The multi turn encoders come in a choice of 12-bits and 14-bits for applications in a wide range of industries.

Multi-turn encoders are commonly used in industries requiring linear positioning, such as the X&Y Positioning Tables found in medical institutions and hospitals.
