Harmonic Drive: Servo Mount Gearheads (HPG-R Series)

These gearheads can be easily adapted to any OEM servo motor. Harmonic Drive® gear products offer zero-backlash with gear ratios from 30:1 to 160:1. Precision planetary gearing products are available with gear ratios from 3:1 to 45:1 with backlash maintained below 1 arc-min. High capacity output bearings are utilized for robust and accurate support of loads. Other benefits include flange and shaft output configurations, hollow shaft designs, and sizes ranging from 0.625 inches to over 10 inches in diameter.

Harmonic Gear Principle

Harmonic Drive® gearing utilizes a unique operating principle which is based upon the elastic mechanics of metals. The greatest benefits are the zero-backlash characteristics and the weight and space savings compared to other gears because our gear mechanism consists of only three basic parts. They are the: Wave Generator, Flexspline and Circular Spline.

This simple three element construction combined with the unique operating principle allows extremely high reduction ratio in a very compact and lightweight package. Neither the size nor weight of the gear vary with the reduction ratio. The high performance attributes of this gearing technology including zero backlash, high torque, compact size, excellent positional accuracy and repeatability are all a direct result of the unique operating principle.

HPG Helical Series

The HPG-R Helical Harmonic Planetary® gearhead delivers High-Torque and High-Accuracy in a compact package. The Helical gear design combines quiet operation with higher torque when compared to the standard HPG Series. The gearhead incorporates continuous backlash compensation that ensures low backlash throughout the life of the gear. A large Cross Roller bearing serves as the output flange and can directly support large loads with high moment stiffness. HPG planetary gears are available with a flange output, smooth output shaft or a shaft with a key and tapped center hole.
