Harmonic Drive: Gear Units (SHF Series)

These gearheads can be easily adapted to any OEM servo motor. Harmonic Drive® gear products offer zero-backlash with gear ratios from 30:1 to 160:1. Precision planetary gearing products are available with gear ratios from 3:1 to 45:1 with backlash maintained below 1 arc-min. High capacity output bearings are utilized for robust and accurate support of loads. Other benefits include flange and shaft output configurations, hollow shaft designs, and sizes ranging from 0.625 inches to over 10 inches in diameter.

Harmonic Gear Principle

Harmonic Drive® gearing utilizes a unique operating principle which is based upon the elastic mechanics of metals. The greatest benefits are the zero-backlash characteristics and the weight and space savings compared to other gears because our gear mechanism consists of only three basic parts. They are the: Wave Generator, Flexspline and Circular Spline.

This simple three element construction combined with the unique operating principle allows extremely high reduction ratio in a very compact and lightweight package. Neither the size nor weight of the gear vary with the reduction ratio. The high performance attributes of this gearing technology including zero backlash, high torque, compact size, excellent positional accuracy and repeatability are all a direct result of the unique operating principle.

SHF-2UH Series: Hollow Shaft Gearheads

The SHF-2UH series is a compact hollow shaft gearhead which has zero backlash as well as exceptional accuracy and repeatability. The gearhead incorporates a Harmonic Drive® gear component into an integral housing. In addition to the hollow shaft, the gearhead also features a high capacity cross roller bearing and output flange to mount the load without the need for additional support bearings. A New lightweight version is now available which provides the same output torque with a mass averaging 20% lower than the standard series!
